ABOUT:

 

Hello, I am Laurie and I create illustrations for children’s picture books.

My debut book, Poems Out Loud, published by Ladybird 2019, is an illustrated anthology perfect for younger readers.

I have also illustrated books for Penguin Random House US, Quarto and Two Lions, and these will be published over the next couple of years.

 

In 2010, I graduated from the University of the West of England and have worked as a freelance illustrator ever since.

I had a decade of exploring & learning while I illustrated and created images for all kinds of projects here & there.

 I've worked alongside artists, with entrepreneurs, with animators, with educators, with robotic engineers, with service users, for festivals, theatres…

I occasionally lecture at the University of the West of England, teaching painting workshops.

 

In 2010, I achieved a highly commended in the Pan Macmillan Prize for my self written book.

Years later, I longed to work on children’s picture books again, where I could make the most of my lively imagination. I'd also grown & matured & with that came a better understanding of stories. That they are wonderful, magical, powerful tools for communication.

In 2018, I went to Bologna Children’s Book Fair with a new portfolio, and soon after, I signed with Pickled Ink and received my first book deal with Ladybird.

 

I live in the vibrant city of Bristol, UK, with my husband who is a print-maker & bookbinder. I love running, dancing in the kitchen & thinking about how we think.
